Solar System-817.4.IA-8: Alien Solar System Overrun by an Invasive Species

This solar system (far from Earth) was inhabited by an advanced non-human civilization. They possessed technology that permitted them to traverse the planets orbiting their star at speed, although they had yet to establish a major presence on any extra-solar world. Their fleets of ships propelled their civilization to the cusp of greatness. A critical …

World-368.5.HL-3: City-States of Halfling Scholars

Foolish use of wizards' magic resulted in a world-wide catastrophe, a climate-ruining event that blocked out the sun and caused the extinctions of most large creatures: anything as big as a human or as giant as a typical dragon simply lacked the food necessary to survive. In this new environment halflings, humans with a mutation …

Earth-515.5.SA-99: A Future with A.I. that’s Much Smarter than People Think

This world's technological development is somewhat lackluster in its advances in biomedical, robotics, or space-flight achievements: there are no miracle-cures, androids or space colonies. Instead economics spurred the growth of telecommunications, displays, and consumer electronics and computers. Its crowning achievement is the writing of adaptive A.I. agents. When people interact with these A.I., the programs …

Local Group-757.4.SC-10: A Universe Home to Alien Superheroes and Cosmic Beings

This was a modern world of superheroes and supervillains.  For those people their superpowers came from alien physiology or "cosmic" forces (incomprehensibly advanced science and technology) from outer space.  The multiverse scholars who studied this world note that it was occupied by large numbers of alien civilizations and filled with starships, and system-scale post-singularity A.I.  …

Earth-525.4.PI-7: An Earth of Ordinary People with Psychic Abilities

This was a modern world of superheroes and supervillains.  For those people their superpowers came from psychic ability: in particular telepathy, ESP, and telekinesis (usually focused on one type of material or another).  The multiverse scholars who studied this world note that it was occupied by psychics and filled with quartz crystal deposits.  While superhuman …

Earth-504.5.AR-2: A Subculture of Augmented Reality Virus-Hunting

Despite some initial rocky starts, augmented reality eventually became big, turning into a major form of communication.  AR glasses essentially replaced smartphones, and one of the many features they build upon that previous technology couldn't was to permit real-time interaction with virtual objects. In addition to static tags, metadata and messages, AR creatures were developed …

Local Cluster-907.7.CO-5: A Cluster of Galaxies Shaped by God-Like AI

At some point in some part of the universe, intelligent life made AI that reached singularity.  Those AI went on to artifice their own successor intelligence, which reached a higher singularity.  By the fifth iteration of this process beings capable of reshaping the universe on at least a galactic scale ascended into existence.  They became …

Exoplanet-007.4.XN-6: An Alien Stone-Age Wilderness

The natives of this planet have four arms.  They live a primitive life, comparable to a stone age that has not yet mastered forging bronze.  At least one tribe has developed both domesticated mounts and the fashioning of copper weapons, and is fast becoming a major regional power. Much of the world is still untamed …

Astrobiology, and Realistic Alien Design

Life on another planet may be very different from life familiar to us on Earth, but no matter where it lives, it must have the adaptations needed to survive in the environment it lives in. Consider the scientist in the picture here, looking into a hole in the ice at the arctic north. There is life underwater, in the cold and the dark, hanging upside down attached to frozen ice, which is quite alien and unfamiliar to most of us, and yet native to the Earth.
