Earth-536.3.AS-12: Astrologically-Ruled World of Divination and Twelve Divisions

One of mankind's oldest disciplines is watching the stars, hoping through various systems of divination to read their movements and correctly predict the truth about present and future events. Despite dozens of systems being developed across the world and throughout history, only Western Zodiac sun sign astrology, in this universe, is found to be true …

Local Group-757.4.SC-10: A Universe Home to Alien Superheroes and Cosmic Beings

This was a modern world of superheroes and supervillains.  For those people their superpowers came from alien physiology or "cosmic" forces (incomprehensibly advanced science and technology) from outer space.  The multiverse scholars who studied this world note that it was occupied by large numbers of alien civilizations and filled with starships, and system-scale post-singularity A.I.  …

Universe-958.4.SW-3: A Space Opera Universe of FTLS Magic

Space is incomprehensibly big.  But shortcuts through space exist.  This is not the science fiction invention of faster-than-light travel, but done through the ritual casting of a hyperspace travel magic spell.  The aliens that practice this space-time magic manipulate paths through space to create routes and roads for quick access to other planets.  Curiously, no …

Earth-605.5.AF-1: An Afro-Futurism Superpower

For typical people of Africa, city life is filled with a variety of advanced technologies.  Powered by renewable energies and connected through the internet of things, advanced AI allows complex systems of services and measured production to run smoothly.  As Africa leapfrogged a lot of western technologies and issues in modernizing, it sidestepped many pollution …

Luna-626.5.LN-4: A Lunarpunk Moon Colony of Post-Modern Witchcraft

Far from Earth and removed from many of its problems, humanity's moon bases form a series of connected structures across the surface of the Moon.  These are partly exposed domes and partly underground bunkers, joined together through a spidery network of tunnels.  Each habitat is self sustaining, even the smaller fringe towns. The largest module …

Local Cluster-907.7.CO-5: A Cluster of Galaxies Shaped by God-Like AI

At some point in some part of the universe, intelligent life made AI that reached singularity.  Those AI went on to artifice their own successor intelligence, which reached a higher singularity.  By the fifth iteration of this process beings capable of reshaping the universe on at least a galactic scale ascended into existence.  They became …

Sol-605.5.SC-3: A Solar System With Earth’s Colonists

Mars was the first planet colonized.  Mankind's best hope for survival on a climate-change ruined Earth (beyond repairing Earth itself), Mars' colonists live primarily underground.  The ceiling of the caverns simulates day/night-cycles with solar-powered light fixtures.  Life on Mars is hard. Spacecraft and vehicle technology allows people to shuttle between solar system bodies.  Whether in …

Torino’s 10 by John R. Canter

A sleepy woman pushes off from her desk, gliding over in her rolling desk chair to the screen with the flashing icon. “! NEO detected. Preliminary analysis rating at 10 on the Torino scale. Verification required.” Half-asleep she reads the message without understanding, once, twice, but by the third time she wakes up. A lot of people will be woken up, soon, for what the message means.

Astrobiology, and Realistic Alien Design

Life on another planet may be very different from life familiar to us on Earth, but no matter where it lives, it must have the adaptations needed to survive in the environment it lives in. Consider the scientist in the picture here, looking into a hole in the ice at the arctic north. There is life underwater, in the cold and the dark, hanging upside down attached to frozen ice, which is quite alien and unfamiliar to most of us, and yet native to the Earth.
