By default, swords come standard on fantasy worlds. On this one, personal firearms (both handguns and long-arms) are more common. They are reliable, portable, and have replaced nearly every other kind of weapon.
Society naturally changed due to the introduction of guns some few hundred years ago. Castles (and other hard forts) are less important. Duels as matters of disputes are settled with pistols. The aristocratic warrior castes and the common laborer caste, men and women alike, are largely equalized on the battlefield – anyone can kill, through luck or skill, by picking up a gun, rather than relying on decades of exotic sword training.
Humans invented firearms, but other races have adopted them as well. Elves, dwarves, halflings, orcs – no race, no matter how traditional or primitive, avoids using firearms.
Naturally, arcane magic developed to focus on guns as well. Magic spells of ammunition, bullet-proofing, accuracy, lethality and repair all became invented in short order with the proliferation of guns. While spell-casting ability is still uncommon, more and more people are slowly beginning to learn it.
